Ritual Story for Speaking with Power, Presence and Ease
Some mornings I wake up with my heart already racing. A meeting on the calendar. A presentation that matters. My body feels everything before my mind even has a chance to name it. As a neurodistinct being, my experience of the world is rich, layered, and intense. High-pressure situations don’t just stir my nerves—they activate memories, patterns, expectations. And so, I create a ritual. Not just for the moment ahead, but for all the energies that try to pull me away from my center.
I no longer shame myself for the tension I feel. I meet it. I meet myself. And I begin.
I set the space with care. This space is mine. I choose a quiet corner, light a candle with intention, and let the flame remind me of my inner spark. I burn incense that speaks to what I need in that moment—sandalwood for grounding and spiritual protection, or lavender for peace and emotional soothing. Sandalwood clears my energetic field and deepens my connection to the divine. Lavender softens my edges and calms the internal noise. Their scent moves through the air like a balm, preparing the space and my spirit.
I reach for Lapis Lazuli, a crystal I use when I need to speak from the depths of truth and insight. Its indigo hue reminds me that wisdom lives in my voice, not just my thoughts. Lapis activates the throat and third eye chakras, helping me express clearly and courageously while staying attuned to my intuition. Holding it anchors me into the frequency of honesty, divine timing, and mental clarity. I let its weight and coolness guide me into presence.
Then I brew spearmint tea, and everything slows. Drinking tea is a ritual for me—a sensory meditation. A moment to pause, to come back into my body, to honor what’s unfolding. Spearmint sharpens my awareness while calming the static. It supports my nervous system and soothes my digestive fire—two places where anxiety tends to land first. I hold the warm mug close and inhale the rising steam like it’s sacred smoke. I whisper affirmations into that rising breath: I am safe to speak. I am safe to shine. I am held. Each sip clears the fog and sharpens my clarity. My body exhales. My energy shifts.

I close my eyes and see it—white light pouring over me like a waterfall. Protective. Cleansing. Nourishing. I watch myself walk into the (virtual) meeting space in full presence. My voice flows clear. My ideas land. I feel seen, respected, and at ease.
Then I speak life into my preparation with words that carry power:
I am clear, calm, and confident.
I speak with intention and purpose.
I am protected, guided, and supported.
I receive feedback with grace and gratitude.
I am aligned with success in every form it takes.
These aren’t just affirmations—they are spells. Every word a note in the symphony of my becoming.
And I don’t avoid the discomfort. I sit in it. I let it rise. I let it stretch across my chest, curl around my spine, pulse in my throat. I stay with it. I listen. I let the discomfort speak—and then I transmute it. I alchemize the fuck out of anxiety and turn it into energy I can move with, speak with, live with. My nervous system doesn’t have to be silent for me to be powerful. I make room for the charge, and I ride it with ease.
Before I close the ritual, I give thanks. Not just for what I want, but for what already is. I thank my body for showing up. I thank my breath for staying with me. I thank the Spirit that walks beside me, unseen but ever-present.
I blow out the candle, sip the last of my tea, and place the crystal in my pocket or bag. It becomes a touchstone throughout the day, reminding me of the sacred work I’ve already done.
And when the time comes, I walk into the space prepared—not because I memorized every word, but because I’ve aligned with who I am beneath the nerves, beneath the fear. The real preparation was never about the slides or the script. It was about remembering my power.
The Real Work Is Remembering
There were times when I tried to bulldoze through anxiety. To suppress my voice or rehearse until it lost its soul. That never worked for me. What works is presence. Ritual. Anchoring into the wisdom already flowing through me. I am not here to perform. I am here to express, to offer, to connect.
I do this for every important moment—job interviews, hard conversations, creative pitches, client calls, community spaces. The ritual may shift in shape, but the essence remains. I move with intention. I claim my space. I honor my rhythm.
This is my version of preparation. It doesn’t involve overthinking. It involves trusting. Trusting that my body knows. Trusting that Spirit always shows up when I do.
